Ganguly's tryst with controversies

Posted in : abcd

(added few years ago!)

(http://www.thecontroversies.com/)A day after Sourav Ganguly announced his retirement from international cricket, the Prince of Kolkata will be remembered for his ability to look adversity in the eye and emerge victorious and on his career path he made friends with controversy. Dada is a man of many parts. Leading India to few of the most memorable triumphs on cricket field was one and fighting back to restore his credentials was another. But not too far behind will be his flair for finding himself in the centre of controversies. It was as instinctive as his leadership qualities.

Whether it was bringing his disagreement with then coach Greg Chappell over his captaincy and more importantly his ability to play for India out in the open, which culminated in his omission from the team, Ganguly wears his heart on his sleeves. But when he took off his shirt and twirled it at the famed balcony of Lord's, it was considered an act that tarnished the image of the gentleman's game.

Arctic Ocean earthquake rattles Nevada seismograph

Posted in : abcd

(added few years ago!)

(http://www.divinationpower.com/A strong earthquake that shook the high Arctic on Tuesday morning was picked up by seismic instruments as far south as Nevada, but Canadian quake experts say they doubt anyone could have felt the shockwaves. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.7-magnitude earthquake took place about 6 a.m. ET in the Arctic Ocean, about 755 kilometres northwest of Resolute, Nunavut, and 1,935 kilometres north of Yellowknife.

I doubt if this earthquake would be felt by anybody, and we certainly don't have any felt reports so far," Garry Rogers, an earthquake scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada, told CBC News on Tuesday. But this earthquake, at sort of magnitude 5.6 [or] 5.7, is big enough to record on virtually every seismograph around the world."The earthquake made news in northeastern Nevada, where the U.S. Geological Survey initially reported a 4.2 magnitude earthquake about 29 kilometres west of the town of North Fork.

Save marriage by tackling divorce

Posted in : abcd

(added few years ago!)

(http://www.divorceecorner.com) I am responding to Stephen Hayford's Sept. 2 letter, "Don't accuse gay marriage opponents of bigotry." Mr. Hayford spoke of concerns about polygamy, promotion of same-sex relationships and behavior in public schools, and First Amendment rights, all in his quest to help save marriage.

It seems to me that if Mr. Hayford really wants to save marriage, why not begin by doing something about the 50 percent divorce rate. And while at it, doing something about some divorcing parents who pit their children against the other parent might be a good task to tackle as well.

Trying to keep same-sex couples, many of whom have been in loving committed relationships for decades, from getting married is really a waste of Mr. Hayford's organization's time and energy. There appears to be so much that needs to be done for the betterment of heterosexual couples first.

Posted in : abcd

(added few years ago!)

(http://www.femaleparent.com/) Pam Ross of Washington, N.C., admired Sarah Palin long before Alaska's governor entered the national spotlight. Ross, 43, is the mother of teenage twin girls and 17-month-old Lawson, who was born with Down Syndrome. When she learned the governor of Alaska was having a baby with Down Syndrome, Ross said she believed the disabled community had found an important voice.

She believes Palin's voice became even stronger when she was named the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee and said she would advocate for the disabled from the White House. Ross and her children got to hear Palin's voice firsthand Tuesday when the self-proclaimed hockey mom spoke before about 8,000 people in Minges Coliseum. The experience was capped off when Palin briefly held Lawson after her speech.

Now age 10, Amber is using the stair stepper, lifting hand weights and doing situps on a stability ball She's lost some weight," said Ennen of Margate, Fla. "Her clothes fit better. You can tell she's firmer."

It may sound like a grown-up routine, but many parents are enrolling their children in fitness centers or buying child-sized equipment for a workout more grueling than ballet or Little League.Last year, 1.3 million children ages 6 to 11 were members of a health club, according to the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association.
